The proportion of optic fiber in the long-distance network has already been up to 90%. In the face of so extensive optical cable network of our country, it is mostly under the care of special maintenance department that our optical cable maintenance work. The traditional maintenance is generally done by hands. With the development of technology of the computer, the computer monitoring system of the transmission network of optical cable has appeared. The running environment of the monitoring system is suitable with the situation of optical cable communicate and it is also suitable with the today's optical cable communicate maintenance system. This system can make cable maintenance a great stride forward from passive type into being controlled process and both social and economic benefits are great. The automatic monitoring system of optical cable utilizes computer, communication technology and measurement technology of optic fiber characteristic to carry on long-range monitoring in real time for optic fiber transmission net, with collect and saving the information, dealing with the problem of the optical cable. It is the organic integration of network technology of the computer and transmission technology of telecommunications. The research in this dissertation can realize group network frame design with automatic computer monitoring function of the long-distance optic fiber cable trunk line and the features of the software and hardware which make up of the system are described too. According to the working condition of the long-distance optic fiber cable used in trunk line, on the basis of non-influence and non-interfering with existing communication and transmitting, the system can run automatic monitoring of optical cable at real time or cycle. Three monitoring modes are configured in this research and they are power monitored online, terminal alarm monitoring and power monitored finely fully. There are two WANs that are designed and analyzed that have been proved feasible. The research follows the development of the key technology of the fiber-communication and computer network at the same time and has proposed the optimization scheme for the future development of this subject. In this research, a series of new and advanced technologies, such as computer software and hardware technology, network technology and fiber-communication technology, are combined and applied. It is the typical case of utilizing information-based technology to transform the traditional maintenance way and there will be greater benefit for use and popularization of the new maintenance way.
