The objectives of IP paging in Mobile IP (MIP) and that in mobile communication are similar, which balance the costs of achieving precise location, power consumption, and signaling. IP paging is becoming one of hot spots of Internet technology. There is no support for paging in the basic mobile IP protocol, so many researchers all over the world have done thorough researches of the relevant problems of IP paging. On the basis of related researches we do our research focus on paging schemes for hierarchical mobile IP networks. The Hierarchical Mobile IP (HMIP), proposed by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), aims at reducing signaling cost for location management in Mobile IP networks. Based on HMIPv6, we study the paging schemes. Considering that HMIPv6 does not state how to set a MAP and its MAP domain. So based on the number of communication hops between a mobile node (MN) and the MAP, a novel strategy for choosing a MAP and constructing its MAP domain is proposed to realize HMIPv6, in which the MAP and its MAP domain are chosen dynamically. Further, Dynamical Hierarchical Paging Strategy is proposed by introducing IP paging with a programming problem model which optimizes MAP domains, i.e., paging areas, and the prerequisite conditions for decreasing signaling cost under Dynamical Hierarchical Paging Strategy is given. Numeric results are presented to show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed schemes. The analytical methods applied in proposing the two strategies are useful for evaluating mobility management strategy of Mobile IP. |
