In order to achieve the construction of integration in Petroleum Exploration and Development, China Petroleum designed and built one data dictionary, called EPDM, since it has some problems, such as the unclear of the name, the type, the value of data, the semantics, and so on, we need to improve or rebuild it. The current management of the data dictionary is based on the document. And the sharing of the dictionary is only the circulation of the document between each other. So, it is urgent that a set of software should be developed to achieve the storage and automation management of the dictionary, as well as the convenience in the sharing of the data dictionary. This study is mainly a research on these issues.Firstly, through the intensive study on the theories of data element and the analysis of the data element in the data dictionary of Petroleum Exploration and Development, this thesis proposes a framework of data element, which extracts 6 categories of object words and 57 categories of characteristics words, and I analyze the representation word in the data element according to the representation word which is internationally recognized. It built data element reversely on the basis of the constitute frame of data element. Then, to the conflict of name, type, value , and the problem of semantics undefined between data elements in the EPDM data dictionary, I use the method of the theory of data element and standardization of data element to analyze and integrate, and improve the logical structure of data dictionary ,to achieve the reconstruction of the data dictionary of EPDM. To the improved data dictionary, built the storage of meta-model according to the requirement of dictionary management. To the problem of out-of-sync between the physical model and logical model of data dictionary which has been applied, I formulate the rules of maintenance and built the meta model of rule. Also,I formulate the meta model which is used to manage the user ,according to the authorization Control on management and maintenance of the data dictionary, I built the meta model which is used to manage diary, according to the demand of diary management. Based on these meta models and combine with the need of management and maintenance of data dictionary, design and develop the system about management and maintenance of data dictionary, realized the management and maintenance of data dictionary and achieve the synchronization maintenance of a logical model and physical model of data dictionary.This thesis provides a set of methods for the improving or enlarging of other data dictionaries. The automation in the storage, adding, editing of the data dictionary and the abolition of data is realized in this system. The system also facilitates the management of the data dictionary and the sharing of the data dictionaries within or without the enterprise. This system has been used on the data management in the data center of Daqing Petroleum and has reached some reasonable results. Also, it has a very bright future.
