The Analysis And Discussion Of "Xiang Newspaper"

"Xiang Newspaper" which is the first daliy in Wuxu Reform Movement in Hunan province,is significant to the advance of the New Trend.This paper summarizes and ananlyses the developing history of "Xiang Newspaper" and its main staff,as well as the historical fact that the mutual influence between "Xiang Newspaper" and the political field and the thinking and cultural field.Meantime,through the perusing of this article, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the cloumns,contents,main trend,and mathod of propagation can be made.In the beginning this paper has analysed the establishment of "Xiang Newspaper" which includes the process of establishment and main workers,especially making a qualitative discussion about what kind of role Mr Xiong Xiling,Mr Tang Caichang,and Mr Tan Sitong have played in the newspaper. Though the newspaper lasted not so long time,it still forced to be stopped twice by different kind of reasons,the three phases from the developing process has reflected current firce struggle between the new party and old party, and the process of Reform Movement from summit to failure,as well as the rough movement of "Xiang Newsper" during the constant changing of propagation tactics.This paper has the statistics of discourse, news, notes, quizzes, etc., and then analyses the different characteristics of these parts. Discourse as a powerful promotion of the press drives the Reform Movement by sharp words as a weapon, played an important role especially in the New Deal, to gives great publicity in politics, economy, construction of public utilities and so on, and also promote the spread of capitalist ideology and the industrial and commercial development to create a good atmosphere for public opinion. "Xiang Newspaper", the organ of the Southern Society, played a very important role in improvement of social trends by publishing lectures and quizzes. Through statistics, "Xiang Newspaper" increased some contents of the press, while the number of discourse decreased. although it is not affected by political factors, "Xiang Newspaper" has the demand for factual information and has very rich information. This paper highlights the theme by three things, that is the Jiaozhou incident, the increase in the event of news, popularity of science dissemination. which have not much mentioned in previous studies. The Newspapers take intensive report with the lateral promotion in the Jiaozhou event, which not only to provide readers with news of events, but also push the Reform Movement. Event news gradually increased and its coverage expands, but it still has a large differences with the modern press, such as shortage of timeliness, no clear title, mixture of news and reviews etc.. The spread of science news has a characteristics of contents versatile, theme unique, being practical to describes scientific and technological knowledge, which make the society fresh at that time."Xiang Newspaper" as a political daily, its daily characteristics is more obvious compared with previous magazine journals. "Xiang Newspaper" is more progress on content and edition than "The Times" and more close to modern newspaper. In addition, the advertisement makes the newspaper commercialization in some extent and expand its promotion. "Xiang Newspaper" becomes pusher and organizer for the Reform Movement with its powerful publicity power. This paper makes a analysis of newspaper influence to the public with a new view, that is how the newspaper affect people by consensus.This is an undesigned coincidence with agenda-setting of communication. "Xiang Newspaper" is coherent with the society providing both of speech and news, and also build good public environment for advocate reform and Reformation Movement, which also is a reflection of agenda-setting theory.In short, this paper makes an analysis of "Xiang Newspaper" in detail. By the statistical analysis of the content, we study the development of newspaper, the features of daily newspaper, promotion characteristics and progress on formation of etc. so that we have an more comprehensive understanding of "Xiang Newspaper" and enrich its research achievements.
