It is very significant for military systems and civilian systems to study the technology of location of high-speech targets. In the martial aspect, it can be used for target tracking in order to attack the target accurately or keep us off the target. In the civilian aspect, it can make us provide more dependable service to it. In various location technologies, the TDOA location technology is the first choice for this subject., because it has anti-interference, easy implement and high accuracy. To acquire the time difference of arrival and to solve equations of the target location are two important steps, which this paper focuses on.The traditional TDOA location technology bases on external synchronization, it requires the base-stations to work cooperatively, which gives rise to inflexible and high cost system. So, in this paper, the TDOA location technology based on internal synchronization is put forward, which is less demanding for the base-stations. It overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional technology, but complicates the equations of the target location. Thus, genetic algorithm that can solve the complex nonlinear optimal problem is used to solve the equations of the target location. And, a result will be a system of location of targets based on genetic algorithm.First, this paper introduced the research background and significance, and described the developments and applications of passive TDOA location technology and genetic algorithm. On the basis of a brief introduction of the design concept of system of target location, the measuring method of TDOA based on internal synchronization was described in detail. Then, introduced the basic theory and the improvement of genetic algorithm used in the paper. In the study on location, a kind of dual population genetic algorithm with adaptive mutation probability and a strategy of using the more accurate value of the first group in each of the groups were put forward and applied to location of aerial targets, and the result told us that the improvement was effective. Finally, the two conditions that loss of signals and measurement errors were simulated. The simulation shows that the system of location of aerial targets based on genetic algorithm can realize the goal of location of high-speech targets.In the end, the paper summarized the research work and pointed out the future research directions.
