Passive location techniques include location of object by virtue of another emitter source and location of emitter source. Passive location technique has been playing an important role in navigation, aviation, aerospace and electronic warfare. In this thesis, detail analysis and comparison of the geometrical dilution of position (GDOP) of single and multi-station location, direction of arrival (DOA), DD-DOA joint location. Location equation and GDOP formula are given as well. The main contents are as follows. The algorithm and accuracy of location by virtue of single station is discussed, which is based on time difference of arrival and direction of arrival. Formulae of location and accuracy are presented with simulation figures, from which relationships among location error and positions of object and stations can be found. The basic principle of multi-station time difference of arrival and direction location technique is discussed, formulae of location error are derived from time difference of arrival with three receivers. Relationship between location error and relative geometry of object and receivers can be seen from those formulae. Error of TDOA and error of positions of stations have been found to affect location accuracy. GDOP figures are drawn to show optimal configuration of stations. The formula of DOA location accuracy is derived form the least squared error estimation. The computer simulation figures are given. Basic principle and error analysis of DOA location is discussed in detail, and computer simulation results are given for confirmation.Analytical solutions to location accuracy equations based on DD, DOA桪D are given respectively, which form a set of figures to illustrate GDOP.Finally, prospect of passive location is presented as well as an overview ofauthor's work.
