The Comparative Research On Media Images Of Female College Students

The dissertation analyzes female college students'issues and images in mainstream newspapers with the documentary and content analysis methods from the perspective of comparison. By comparing the disparity of images in two different kinds of media, analyzing the reasons lead to such differences further, which provide enlightenment and reference for the practical reporters to do the fair, objective reports on upward and positive images of female college students.Firstly, the dissertation based on concluding in academic fields about female college students on the commercial websites and urban newspapers, manifests that some negative images such as sexual openness, mental retardation, help-seekingness, poor mind, mainstream of crime, high consumption are constructed by these two media.Secondly, the dissertation adopts the content analysis method to investigate reports on female college students from Chinese Women's Daily and China's Youth Daily, finds that the main topics of these two newspapers give prominence to employment and entrepreneurship, love giving, enthusiasm, social practice, training and academic achievements, joining the army, maintaining legal rights.Thirdly, the dissertation through the comparative and contrast analysis of the female college students'macro and specific images between commercial websites, urban newspapers and mainstream newspapers.The author thinks that mainstream newspapers highlight the upward and positive trend of the female college students such as employment and entrepreneurship while commercial websites and urban newspapers strengthen the negative images such as sexual openness and mental retardation.Finally, the author concludes that the roots of these differences among the media lie in media feature and positioning, supervision mechanisms, quality of journalists, it not only requires journalists establish the concept of being objective, fair, balanced, and neutral but also takes on responsibility as the most important society watchers.
