With the development of science and technology, number and kinds of electric equipment increase continuously. At the same time, integration level of electric device become higher, which decreases the susceptibility of electric equipment. Therefore, it is very important to ensure that the electric equipment can work properly in the complex electromagnetic environment and not disturb each other, this needs high EMC ability of electric equipment. Before released to the market, any electric equipment is required to pass the EMC tests.ESD (Electrostatic-discharge) is a common neutral disturbing source. Its large current, high voltage and intense electromagnetic radiation could bring troubles to the electric equipment. Thus, it is very important to test ESD sensitivity of the equipment to ensure it can work properly, while ESD immunity test is an important part of EMC test. Therefore, it is very important to do research on the ESD problem, analyze ESD influence on equipment and protect equipment from ESD.In this paper, research on ESD immunity test of a laser printer is done. Some theory analysis of ESD is listed at first, and then according to IEC 61000-4-2 standard, a SPICE model of ESD generator is proposed. Based on the SPICE model and real structure of an ESD generator, a full wave ESD generator model is constructed with EM simulation software CST. Full wave analysis of ESD immunity on laser printer is done according to IEC 61000-4-2 standard, including contact discharge and air discharge, which show good agreement with the experimental results. Finally, some improvement of printer is introduced to improve the EMC immunity of the printer.
