With the rapid development of mobile communications and broadband wireless access technology, the emerging wireless communication systems provide users with a heterogeneous network environment. At the same time, the development of terminal technology allows a signal terminal to carry multiple network interfaces. Under the condition that both network technology and multi-interface terminal technology are mature, whether we can achieve multi-path transmission in the heterogeneous network in order to improve the end-to-end throughput and optimize the network using efficiency has become the focus of the industry and academia. This thesis starts from the research of heterogeneous network integration and SCTP protocol, in the first place analyzed the key issues that require to be solved of the multi-path transmission in the heterogeneous network. Then introduce the platform and system architecture of the heterogeneous network supporting the collaborative of terminals, and also the design of the various subsystems. On the basis of the above-mentioned, we made extensions to mSCTP to enable the multi-path transmission in the heterogeneous network environment. This thesis focuses on the extension of mSCTP, we analyzed the key technologies involved in the multi-path expansion, including the improvements of basic multi-path mechanism, the design of dynamic path management in mobile scenarios, the design of the path monitor and the development of path selecting strategies. In this thesis, we make depth research and analysis on the above issues, reference and learning the solution to the problem both from home and abroad. We designed a Path Monitor which can monitor and update the status of the path in real time. Based on the information provided by the Path Monitor, we calculate the path bandwidth using the available end-to-end bandwidth estimation model, and select the path according to the path bandwidth.Simulate the dynamic path management scheme via NS-2 tools, and make comparison with the existing program LS-SCTP. Design simulation scenario, use the network throughput to analyze the simulation results. From the results the conclusion can be drawn:the method we achieve has some advantages, the throughput between associations has increased, and the use of network resources is more efficient.
