With the development of society, the concept of environmentalism and power-saving attracts more and more attentions. In the current wide-spread personal communication world, the higher spectrum efficiency, higher data rate and richer multimedia services are supported, meanwhile, the terminal power consumption problem is particularly serious. In order to maximize support for terminal mobility, to ensure good user service experience, we should try to extend the lifetime of terminals as much as possible while guarantee the quality of service at the same time. Whether it is LTE (Long Term Evolution) system or LTE-A systems, the power-saving mechanism are standardized. It proves the importance of power-saving to some extent. Simultaneously, in the widespread concern of 802.16e protocol, the terminal of the power saving mechanism has also become an important component.DRX (Discontinuous Reception), which is an important method to optimize energy- efficiency from MAC (Media Access Control) layer aspect, is adopted by most wireless communication systems. The basic idea of DRX is to allow the terminal to close the transceiver into sleep mode when there is no data transmission, the goal of which is to reduce the power.This thesis firstly introduces the existed power-saving mechanism in current communication systems. And then, the related contents of energy saving in LTE and LTE-A system are studied. After that, new Markov modeling methodology is proposed to analyze the influence of DRX cycle in LTE and the influence of DRX parameters in carrier aggregation of LTE-A. On the basis of the analysis, a delay based dynamic DRX cycle adjusting scheme and a fairness criterion based adaptive DRX scheme are put forward to lower the power consumption while meeting or exceeding the user's current performance. In the tracking of the LTE standardization, this thesis gives a method to enhance the system robustness when signaling mistakes happen. In section five, from the point view of scheduling, considering the impacts of DRX, an effective but not complicated scheduling strategy is proposed by introducing the correlative DRX parameters into scheduling factors. These conclusions have great significance for the research of power-saving and scheduling in LTE and LTE-A.
