Research And Implement For Video-on-Demand System Of Peer Management Policy Based On Bittorrent

By using P2P streaming technology, Video-on-Demand (VoD) system is quickly becoming one of the P2P applications which people has paid most attention to in Internet. With the increasing popular in campus network, the network bandwidth is gradually swallowed by P2P applications, which influences the normally use in studying, researching and teaching. As one of the most popular P2P applications, because of the same data transfer method with P2P streaming VoD system, BitTorrent has the feasibility to transform into VoD system. Therefore, we propose a new policy, which could be used for peer management in VoD system based on BitTorrent.However, BitTorrent has the same problem with P2P.for example, not pay attention to the information about network lever and physical lever, the crossing ISP traffic, the data transfer in long distance, etc. BitTorrent protocol prescribes that the peers which uploaded file blocks are selected by server in a manner of random. Randomly neighbor selected mode has brought a lot of unknown, and also brought a lot of uncertain to system maintenance and performance. Meanwhile, the free-riding users are also a problem which endangers the performance of system.This article first introduces the developing process and researching status of VoD system. By researching P2P system and its characteristic, summarizing and analyzing currently P2P network modes and peers selection algorithms. Describe the BitTorrent system works and related algorithms. Divide the peers selection algorithms by its different goals into two group. One group is based on traffic locally and the other is based on users fairness. By researching TSPS(Two-Stage Peer Selection)using in P2P streaming VoD system, combining the application of BitTorrent VoD system,we propose a policy of peer management in BT Tracker, which use to make traffic locally and ensure the fairness of users. It also used the peer performance as one of the selection factor. And then, design and imply the policy in the server of VoD system based on BitTorrent. Finally, testing and analysis the system.
