An efficient and stable data transfer management is the key point of streaming media technology research based peer to peer network. Currently, live streaming systems on peer to peer have been more mature. However, the design and implementation of video on demand become complex due to the highly interactive features. Especially, how to provide a high-quality media service for a peer in the peer to peer network is the key in video on demand.Based on the analysis and study the current live and video on demand systems, GridCast platform that is a peer to peer video on demand implements a media data transmission system for video on demand. In video on demand platform, this system provides a guarantee for high-quality media service of many-to one modal and enhances the practicability and universality of platform.The system consists of three parts: the selection mechanism of partner nodes, the elimination mechanism of partner nodes, and data scheduling strategy between the partner nodes. The selection mechanism for a partnership explains how to choose a suitable service node and related issues. The elimination mechanism for a partnership describes how to eliminate the service node and related strategies. The media data scheduling strategy describes how to distribute and schedule the media data. The all strategy in system is designed to make full use of terminal nodes'resources in peer to peer network and reduce the server load and improve the bearing capacity and scalability of the system as a whole.All the strategy and relevant module have been coded in the actual video and demand platform–GridCast. GridCast has been widely in used. The analysis of the collected data shows that the media data transfer system is effective and useful.
