Research On Media Resource Management Strategy In Video-on-Demand Based Peer-to-Peer

An efficient resource management strategy is the key point of streaming media technology research based peer to peer network. Based on current technologies, live streaming system based on peer to peer are becoming more and more mature. However, the Design and Implementation of Video on Demand System become so complicated due to the inherent interactive features. How to design an efficient management system in the media resource is the key that whether we can provide users with high-quality VOD service.Based on the analysis and study of the current live and video on demand systems, we proposed a set of media management strategy for Video on Demand system. The effective management strategy for the media resources in servers and clients, makes a good showing P2P performance and ensures the high quality of services for users. The strategy consists of two parts:media server resource management and client media resources management. The servers create and manage all of the files which contain the indexing information of the media files requested by clients, also it divide the media file into segmentations and provide the users with data packets. Client Resources Management is mainly the memory-caching management and disk- caching management. We make use of the data management window to organize the memory-caching pool and complete the data scheduling, storage, transmission functions. We also use content management table to manage the all the data cached in disk and provide the functions such as data reading, writing and contesting from disk.All the strategy and relevant module have been coded in the actual video and demand system–GridCast. GridCast have been widely in used. The analysis of the collected data shows that the media resource management strategy in this paper is effective and useful.
