In modern radar systems, we often require the common post can see real-time long-range radar video images in thousands of miles, provide accurate information about the original situation for the commander. At the same time, all the radars and sensors have the need of sharing original video image information. The radar video data is very large, it will costs tens of megabytes and even hundreds of megabytes of bandwidth if transfer directly, which is unrealistic for the existing radar network, so we need to compress the data. Combining with actual requirements and the existing technology, this dissertation puts forwards a real-time transmission scheme for the radar video based on hardware, and this project completed joint debugging and came true.The system selects Xilinx Corporation XC5VLX30T as the primarily control chip, FPGA receives the original radar video from the optical fiber, controls the compress module working, uses Ethernet transmitting the compressed data to computer. The compression is completed by the chip ADV611 which based on wavelet with double orthogonal(7,9) wavelet,Huffman coding and Run length coding.This paper analyzes the characteristics of the radar video, describes the principle of each compression algorithm in details, simulates the algorithms and compares them. Then describes the hardware and software programs of the entire coding system in details, finally give the result of the system. The results prove the system can achieve compression at expected ratio, reaching the expected goal with practical engineering application value.
