From Netizen To E-Citizen: A Study Of E-citizenship Construction

The netizen in china is so-called e-citizen since the netizen force was emerged nowadays. This dissertation angled on citizen consciousness, through the three dimension namely citizen's ability, political participation and citizen's responsibility as the basic for the transition of netizen to network citizen. Based on the study on netizen, an internet event's subject, I will analyzing the netizen behaviour and their thought where when they are participating in the internet events, meanwhile, counducting the e-citizenship at the same time.The cases in this study are consisted by the three famous internet events which happened in year 2009. Firstly, the "Wang Shuai" incident emphasize the awareness of netizen in their own citizen's ability; Secondly, the "hide-and-seek" incident explores the enthusiasm of political participation of netizen, as well as the plight of political participation in real society. While the "Deng Yujiao" incident reveals the netizen defends on justice and ethic. Through the portrayal of netizen behaviors and statements I argue that the netizen possess the citizen consciousness. From the analysis, this dissertation sumup the netizen who take part in internet event possess the qualification and ideology of citizenship, referred to the western citizenship theory. In views of this, facts proved that the evolution of the netizen to e-citizen.However, the internet is double edged sword. Although the existing of the e-citizen is verified, there are still extremist and unreasonable netizens in the internet. In the other word, not every netizen can deemed to be an e-citizen. There is lacuna of netizen such as tremendous difference among netizen's individual characteristic; a transient of citizen consciousness; overemphasize upon rights defend, yet neglect the citizen's responsibility and obligation. These have become a problem for the transition of netizen to e-citizen.After affirmed that the netizen can be deemed as an e-citizen, I will be trying to bring forward a reasonable question on the relationship between e-citizen and citizen in the actual life. Furthermore, it will be examined and analyzed via the hypothetical questions, "whether the e-citizen equivalent to the citizen in actual life" or "whether the e-citizen achievements can be considered as a progress of citizen in actual life Therefore, the conclusion is the fact that e-citizens is different with citizen in actual life. We affirm netizenship had been successfully transit to e-citizenship, but the achievement of e-citizen cannot be considered as an improvement of citizen in actual life. There are difference subjects between e-citizen and citizen. Finally, this dissertation claimed the construction of e-citizenship impelled progression of citizen consciousness, rather than emerged as an approach for contribution to citizenship's construct. Thus the construction and cultivation to both of citizenship and e-citizenship shall be practiced at the same time, in spite of the online and offline status.
