Recent years, with the rapid development of Internet, Ethernet which were oriented from LAN is entering into the MAN and WAN area for its simple structure, inexpensive and nice compatibility. Since the traditional Ethernet lacking of effective management mechanism, the implementation of OAM mechanism on Ethernet is becoming the inevitable trend of Ethernet development. Nowadays, the standards organizations of international such as IEEE and ITU-T is pushing forward the standardization of OAM mechanism.ITU-T Y.1731 is the most comprehensive protocol among all Ethernet OAM protocols, which contains Fault Management Function and Performance Monitoring Function. Compared with the former protocols, Y.1731 has defined the Performance Monitoring Function which will complement the OAM mechanism. But nowadays, there is still no manufacturer can fully implement the Y.1731 at home and abroad. Base on the analysis of Y.1731, this paper has deeply researched into the key technology of Ethernet OAM and provided a detailed software implementation of Fault Management Function and Performance Monitoring Function. The implementation of the protocol will be of far reaching importance.Firstly, this paper discussed the status of development of Ethernet OAM home and abroad, and focused on the standardization and development direction of Ethernet OAM mechanism. Secondly, the later chapter discussed the mechanics and difficult point of the protocol, and decomposed the protocol into several parts for further software designing.On the basis of protocol analysis, this paper provided a overall designing of the software system. Firstly, it discussed the relationship between different modules. And then, it showed the overall framework and the common data structure. After that, it discussed the designing of Fault Management Function and Performance Monitoring Function, including the designing of software process, state machine, algorithm of measurement and data structure. After all, it discussed the optimization of Connectivity Fault Management which is the key technique of Ethernet OAM mechanism and discussed the method of chip level implementation.After the implementation of Y.1731 software system, this paper discussed the method of system testing. On the basis of test environment construction, we have tested the basic function of the software firstly, and then tested the Connectivity Fault Management in different hardware environment. The test result certified the high-precision and high-stability of the system after optimized.This research project oriented from the latest Ethernet OAM protocol, provided a integrated and a optimized implementation of the software system and reached the standard of Ethernet OAM. It will lay a solid foundation for the development of carrier-class Ethernet.
