With the advent of information age, the requirements on the quality of information transmission are also rising. Optical Fiber Communication is getting more and more people's attentions quickly. For there are such advantages as larger transmission capacity, higher quality of information, farther transmission distance, more stable performances, resistance to electromagnetic interference, corrosion resistance and so on. In the past decade, with the rapid development of information construction, network is even more closely linked with the people's life, the dependences on communication networks is also growing, how to ensure that the cable product's quality has become a global focus. The Automatic Testing System of Optical Cable studied in this project is just in order to fully protect the quality of optical cable products and greatly improve the efficiency of optical cable quality inspection. For the original testing system is less flexibility, testing process is not reasonable, testing parameters are incomplete, this project will make a fully optimization and upgrading to meet the actual demands of the Cable Factory.This paper consists of five parts as follows:Firstly, introduce the background and significance of this project, the principle of optical detection technology and the contents and structures of this paper. Secondly, introduce the working principle of OTDR and its characteristic parameters, the communication and control ways from the computer to the OTDR. Thirdly, describe the structures of the classic automatic testing system in detail, analyze the functional requirements. Fourth, design the new and perfect Control Flow Charts base on the original system, detailed the different design ideas and the specific tasks performed by the different flow charts. Fifth, introduce the different roles and significances of the different functional modules. Detail the specific optimization ideas, realization ways and application effects. Finally, summarize the work of this project and look ahead the further improvement of this testing system.
