Library Reader Services In ChongQing Area During Anti-Japanese War

This article chooses a specific time in the course of library reader services in modern times——the library reader services in ChongQing area during the Anti-Japanese War Period as my research issue. It not only discusses various types of libraries' reader services, but also probes certain general characters and regular patterns through this specific historical period.This paper gives an account of the four basic factors of the library reader services:the literature foundation, the service objects, the service method and the service arrangement, then it discusses various activities of reader services, the development and the reader services of the Common People Education Pavilion, the education and the theoretical research of reader services, the activities about reader services of the Chinese Library Association during the Anti-Japanese War Period in ChongQing area, and finally it sums up the reader services in ChongQing area during this period. The development of the library reader services in ChongQing area during the Anti-Japanese War Period was due to many reasons but mainly to the hard work of the general librarians, and it was their national spirit and patriotic enthusiasm that promoted the development of the reader services during this period. Though the libraries in ChongQing area made some progress during this period, multiple elements from many aspects such as political, economical and cultural factors restricted the development of libraries, and affected the development course of the reader services.The research has important meanings on both the historical and realistic aspects. The research not only shows the library reader services in that specific period but also has some significance on the modern library reader services. The predecessors' stirring story in library science and their selfless dedication can increase the contemporary library workers' service enthusiasm and improve their service skills so as to serve the readers better and more efficiently.
