Anti-Japanese war is one of the most historic events in the history of Chinese race. Although this historic event has past 65 years, this history of solemn and stirring will never be forgotten, because histories make men wise. Chongqing was once the war-time capital and the control center in far-eastern region of worldwide anti-fascist war. Research on war-time Chongqing is one of the most representative themes in the second world war history researches, but there are few deep monographic studies, especially from the country image's view in communication. As one of the most important media, Time Magazine has been all along attached importance to reports about China. Since started publication in 1923, Time Magazine had showed great concern on China, the most frequent period was anti-Japanese war. Chongqing was the war-time capital and the report scale in Time Magazine's China reports was great. So it is important to pay attention to the war-time capital image shaped by Time Magazine, especially the meaning of the shape. The innovations of this article are: from the subjects, during the researches on China image shaped by Time Magazine in academic circles at home and abroad, this article stops a gap. This article will provide systematic a set of oracle materials of western media's reports on Chongqing during anti-Japanese war and analyse the meanings to afford illustrative case in country image communication research. This article will apply discourse analysis, content analysis and country image theory synthetically, to understand Chongqing image during the anti-Japanese war from the media view, to represent China's war-time capital image shaped by Time Magazine.which used unique reporting techniques. The results indicate that Chongqing image shaped by Time Magazine focuses on"perfect leader"Chang kai-shek and Mei-ling Song,"pursue democracy"Guomintang government and American government's support to China's anti-Japanese war. Chinese Communist Party and left force in Guomintang are also part of Chongqing image, but reports are few, which are almost criticism. In Time Magazine's reports, Chungking Bombing set off by contrast Guomintang government's"defence system and people's unrelenting will". The idealized vision shaped by Time Magazine mostly were political themes, so it was not a real war-time capital image, for example, there was no reports about the contradiction between shangjiangren and xiajiangren since refugee poured into Chongqing after the war began.Time magazine placed high hopes on Chongqing leaded by Guomintang government. However, there is consensus today that the big story of the 1940s in China did not occur in Chungking. It was taking place in the countryside, which was the Ameierican media's failure that John Fairbank said. It is clear from this article that this story was not dealt with adequately by Time Magazine.
