The improvement of modern Radar system provides a new technical method for the target recognition.It is shown that the time domain property of laser pulse could be an important parameter for the target recognition. Therefore, the property of the laser pulse scattered from a target will be discussed mainly in the time domain.In this paper, the optical receiver is designed based on the principles of the photoelectron detection. Firstly the method to control the error in the data processing is presented, such as range gating technique, wavelength selecting technique, curve fitting technique and so on. Secondly the pulse broadening due to the shape of the target is discussed.Based on the results obtained from the analysis, the time domain property of the laser pulse scattered from a target can be used as a parameter for the target recognition. Finally, the difficulties in the experiment and the future work are discussed.
