Theme of this paper is researching the wireless sensor network (WSN) for environmental monitoring. At the beginning, the frame of WSN, the structure of node, the protocol stack and characteristics of WSN were studied in order to fully realize the WSN. At the second part, the design of hardware was explicated, including the module of sensor, mpu, RF chip, power supply and I/O. After that, the details of programming were analyzed according to the main work process of the wireless node. In the end, one kind of wireless sensor node was realized, which can monitor the temperature and humidity.By testing and verificating several times, the wireless node's performances reached the goals of project, including the wireless communicate distance, the power consumption, the range and the accuracy of environmental monitoring. Further more, there was a expand interface at the sensor module. We can easily add other sensors to the node for collecting more information of the environment.
