Machinery manufacturing is the pillar industry in China. The development of science and technology requires ongoing technology innovation and improving ability of product design in manufacturing, to enhance the manufacturing competition. As the development of technology, it's important to apply the natural language understanding system into the product design. Based on the Chinese language understanding faced to mechanical product design field, the thesis analyse customer needs, extract effective information and it can therefore transform into the conceptual design to fulfill the customers'requirements in auto.So that it will provide sufficient support for the design of the follow-up and enhance the efficiency of product design. This paper firstly based on the Chinese characteristics and the strongpoint of natural language understanding in the area of design, make clear that it's necessity to apply the natural language understanding system into the product design. Secondly, this paper introduces several currently common knowledge representation methods and semantic analysis methods. Conceptual dependency theory is chosen as an important complementarity to the method based on knowledge. Then, starting from the verb itself, this paper mainly study on the word"have"which is used very widly and complex and statistics the common meanings. And then the word is classified according to different relations between syntax. Fourthly, on the basis of the above work, discuss how to deal with the verb, especially the word"have"in the natural language understanding system and achieve understanding. Lastly semantic analysis of natural language understanding is applied to requirement analysis archetypal system for the design of gear mechanism. The user requirements is understood and analyzed. With other models running, the system runs well and obtains good results.
