Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new information acquisition, processing and transmission technology, which consists of sensor, embedded computing, wireless communication and distributed information processing technologies. The research of topology control algorithms and routing algorithms are important parts of WSN.Topology control algorithm is divided into power control and sleep schedule two mainstream research direction, how to reduce energy consumption is an important aspect. Routing algorithm, just to pursue the minimum of energy consumption is not sufficient. Because in this case some sensor nodes may be too busy to deal with the data packets, and will die earlier than other sensor nodes. This will lead to the network separation or emergence of the hole and will impact the lifetime of the network. In this dissertation, the issues of the topology control algorithms and routing algorithms of WSN are discussed. There are three main works of this dissertation. The first work is that study the current topology control algorithms and design a hybrid topology control algorithm (HTC). First, HTC uses the sleep schedule to form an initial topology, and then uses the power control to form an optimized topology. It uses the advantages of sleep schedule and power control algorithm and discards the disadvantages. It can enhance the network performance and prolong the network lifetime. The second work is that research on the current routing algorithms and present an energy balance routing algorithm (EBRA). In EBRA, the sensor node uses the parameter q to find its next hop node. This will be able to avoid some nodes die early and also be able to balance the energy consumption of the network, thereby significantly extending the lifetime of the WSNs.At last, the HTC and EBRA are simulated on Network Simulator (OPNET). The simulation results show that, HTC and EBRA has a significant advantage in extending the life of the WSN.
