With the rapid development of Computer and Internet technology, the embedded system gradually becomes the mainstream of the times. From smart phones to tablet PCs, set-top box to vehicle-mounted GPS, people enjoy the convenience everywhere that the embedded system brought us. However, at the same time, the further development of embedded system has been plagued by power consumption. Therefore, the major problem that the embedded system power management has to face today is that how to reduce the overall power consumption of the system while meeting user's requirements. The paper's major job is root in a project of mobile computing embedded system– tablet PC. Firstly, the author briefly introduces the development background and hardware & software platform of the project, the relational tools and techniques needed as well. After this, a detailed requirement analysis of the overall system from hardware & software aspects and the power management module from function & performance aspects is made by the author. Based on this, the Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) module of i.MX 51 processor and the sleep & wake-up of Android are studied by the author, who determines the power management method of the project. According to the project's requirement, the driver of Power Management Unit (PMU) and DVFS module are implemented. Meanwhile, the author applies the sleep & wake-up mechanism of Android to the project to control hardware device's power management, in order to reduce the power consumption while the system performance is satisfied. In the end, the analysis of defect of the power management of the project is presented, and the idea of software DVFS and the future prospect of the power management in embedded system are also put forward.
