Network is not only simple hubs but also complex switches, routers and other equipments. Network architecture also has evolved from shared Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet switching today. New applications in network continual appeared, and the requests on bandwidth higher and higher. At the same time network attacks are endless which influence the normal processing of Internet. In the faced of such a complex network, how do we monitor the network status, and analyze traffic distribution in network, and control network flow direction and distribution. All of these are research directions in network management currently. As a representative of regional network, campus network adopts three-level architecture initially. With the expansion of network, the physical and logical topology is also towards the direction of co-existence between route and switch. It shows some features of WAN. It bought changes to the traffic pattern. The key points of campus network usage and operation currently are network usage normalization, reasonable bandwidth distribution, traffic management and so on.Recently, on traffic management, the main problems are:Traffic Jams due to unmoral usage, multimedia applications requirements, attacks from internet or intranet (such as virus problems, unauthorized access), etc.; campus network exports bandwidth, traffic distribution and flow become manage bottlenecks. How to control access from access layer to core layer, and intranet to border are the major problems which faced with universities. This paper focuses on traffic management. From a traffic operation perspective, designs a traffic management system with scalable, high security, and campus commonness. Firstly, the paper studies abnormal traffic reasons, status and threatens of security of network from multiple views, and also analyzes the operation, management and analyzing techniques. Secondly, the status and requirements from campus network features, and has a necessary consolidation on traffic operation. Finally, offers a concrete suggestion on traffic operation and management which based on the architecture within HFUU.The paper studies on the access layer flow control, intranet access, netstream analysis, export control within campus network traffic hot spots in the technology and management strategies, and completed the deployment and practice on the related flow management.
