Research And Implementation Of VLAN Topology Dynamic Management Protocol

The VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) technology, a key technology in the Ethernet switch, can contain broadcast traffic effectively and make it possible to realize the routing functions in the Ethernet switch. GVRP (Generic Attribute Registration Protocol), a VLAN topology dynamic management protocol, based on GARP (Generic Attribute Registration Protocol), is a necessity for the sophisticated Ethernet switch.The research on how to design and realize GVRP under the TMS frame (Tornado for Managed Switch, A switch solution afforded by Wind River Systems, Inc.). is done based on the project of the sophisticated Ethernet switch-MPS6805 from Maipu Communication Technology Co.LTD. The main work includes:1. As far as the security problem and the problem of wasting IP Addresses in VLAN are concerned, the Private VLAN technology and the Super VLAN technology are introduced and discussed. And the scheme for communication between the hosts based on Proxy ARP service is proposed in detail, which is one of the key technologies employed in Super VLAN.2. The architecture, the state machine and the timers of GVRP are analyzed deeply. And some details of GVRP are improved for high-efficiency.3. The relationship between GVRP and the other protocols in the TMS frame is analyzed and concluded. What's more, the interface functions between GVRP and the other protocol modules are designed.4. GVRP is designed and realized, including the design for the configuration commands, the design for the data structures, the design for the tasks, the design for the processing procedures, the design for the testing cases, coding and testing.The results from the very research were used in the sophisticated Ethernet switch-MPS6805, which have been passed α version test and β version test.
