With the extensive application of the embedded system, the quality of embedded systems software is concerned. The technology which combined the characteristics of simulation and test provided an effective way for the software quality assurance. Based on researching on the characteristics of the embedded system software test and the technology of simulation and test, the article referred the existing platforms and technologies and proposed a unique simulation test platform (STP) design and framework for embedded system. The platform was multi-level and was made of multiple front-ends which followed modular design principles. Through the platform, types of interfaces were provided for the design under testing (DUT), such as digital interfaces, communication interfaces and control interfaces. Meanwhile, the platform with a strong versatility and scalability provided a solution for the poor general in embedded system test.The article was focused on the FPGA design of the two simulation and test front-ends in the whole STP included the I/O front-end and the high-speed data communication front-end. Between them, the I/O front-end based on the Xilinx Viterx_ⅡPro development board was a small-scale SOPC. The instruction from the host was received and pretreated by PowerPC embedded in FPGA and the task was realized by FPGA's control. The flexible interface types and timing were implemented by the I/O front-end through hardware and software co-design to support abnormal test. The high-speed data communication simulation and test front-end was based on Xilinx Virtex5 development board and achieved high-speed communication through the PCI Express bus. In the design, the dual FIFOs were used for capacity data buffer. A large volume of data was sent and received through the FPGA's control of the PCI Express IP core and interface between the front-end and the DUT.The research of the article has already been verified and applied in third-party embedded system software evaluation. It obtains a good application result, makes a comprehensive application value and generalizing value.
