CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a dominant technology for the large-scale network delivery which can reduce the network transfer delay, but has low expandability and high cost. P2P (Peer-to-Peer) network is a complementary technology with some advantages to CDN.The paper researches the CDN system architecture and the performance demand of streaming; the paper also researches the development of P2P network and the problem in streaming use. CDN and P2P have complementary advantages in technology. The paper proposes a hybrid delivery network based on CDN and P2P, which deploys the CDN in public. backbone network and P2P network in local area. The application of hybrid content delivery network in streaming media system is presented. The experimental results show that hybrid content delivery network can enormously reduce traffics over backbone network, make user request be responded quickly, and solve the problem that less seeds lead to the inefficient use of resources.
