Terrain information visualization is playing an important role in the field of geographic information systems and real-time simulation. With the promotion of network demand in current applications, the real-time internet streaming and rendering of 3D terrain scene become an urgent problem that needs to be solved.Actually, the terrain has a high degree of geometric structural complexity, and it is distributed continually in a geographical space, its 3D model with a large amount of data puts an enormous pressure on the network bandwidth and the processing power of computer graphics. So it cannot meet the user's demand for real-time interaction if the traditional method of network transmission is simply used.In this paper, the internet streaming technology was deeply discussed, and then was applied in internet transmission of 3D terrain data on the basis of relative outstanding research achievements by domestic and foreign scholars, and lastly a solution for 3D terrain data streaming was put forward for the achievement of a remote terrain rendering. In this paper, with the feature of 3D terrain model considered, an organization and storage model suitable for transmission on the internet was established, with data coded and compressed; and then a data scheduling strategy was developed, which is responsible for the scheduling and transmission of data in the rendering and roaming of terrain. Finally, an experimental system was established to demonstrate the feasibility of the solution through data and rendering graphic achieved.
