Real-time rendering technology for large scale terrain is becoming a hot field which attracts more and more researchers' attention at present. Its huge data quantity limits the development of rendering algorithm.To solve this problem, An algorithm of LOD automatically generation through sparsely resampling technique is described. Block is taken as the unit of terrain simplification and the effects of viewpoint are considered, On the precondition of assuring terrain effect, it can predigest models in large extent. Study the organization of the terrain data of a large-scale 3D scene. Partition and process of the terrain data should be done, terrain data of a 3D scene is organized into a chessboard structure. Study the problem of terrain data I/O in large-scale 3D scene visualization. A feasible dynamical schedule algorithm is designed, By utilizing the superiority of multithread operating system, the multithreading synchronous mechanism can help to improve the usage ratio of computer. Based on the research above, a large-scale 3D terrain walkthrough system is designed and implemented based on the above content, which well validates the rapid rendering technique's effect.
