In recent years, with the development of the technologies on satellites and high-altitude aircrafts, as well as satellites and reconnaissance aircraft in the military field have been widely used, the requirements for camouflage technology is becoming higher and higher. Especially, camouflage disguise has become the common means which is always used to fought against military reconnaissance and weapons attack systems. The purpose of the camouflage is to change the color and shelter of other objectives by using paints and dyes, and to minimize the characteristics contrast between the target and background, so that the probability of surveillance equipment has been reduced. The camouflage is not only similar with the background in color, but also reflect the shape of the background's characteristics. That is to say that, the color, shape, size and distribution of the camouflage should be of coherence with the background.This paper is based on this need to propose a method of major colors extraction according to the background, which is improved fuzzy C average clustering algorithm. This method uses the histogram information from the background to choose out four colors that have more different visual effects as the cluster center of the fuzzy C average clustering algorithm, and set a threshold to the criterion. First, the background image of the military targets are pretreated, then extracts color information of the after-pretreatment image and saves as TXT file; Secondly, using clustering algorithm, do extracting mass-tone experimental and save results as TXT file; Using regional growth ways obtains four splash block diagram one more time; Finally, computer can get color characteristics of the background and four splash block diagram, and measure color similarity. Compared with the traditional designing method, the paper can make the generated major colours coordinate with the background so as to get a better effect on camouflaging.The experimental results show that the method which is presented in this paper can extracts the major color which can confluence with the surrounding environment of the target and achieve a good camouflage effect.
