The express developments in communication, radar, aerospace and other fields have made the system more and more powerful in function, complex in structure, and massive in scale. Multi-board cooperating and pipelined processing are the basic framework of systems nowadays.To determine their impacts on today system reliability and survivability, data communication and space radiations are deeply researched after a particular analysis on the performance of synchronizations in high speed interconnections between boards or chips, on the classification of space radiations and their physical mechanisms of damages. For the requirements of high reliability and many interlinkages, source-synchronization, system-synchronization and self-synchronization interface schemes are designed and implemented for high speed data communication based on FPGA. Besides, the concept of data communication hardening is advocated, for which an effective error control algorithm named interleaving hamming code agreeing to high speed data communication features is presented with a detailed performance analysis.For the complex space environment of satellites, several system hardening measures for withstanding space radiations, such as error control, software and hardware redundancy, ASIC(Application Specific Integrated Circuit) design, are researched and discussed in detail. Finally, some kinds of anti-radiation materials and IC reinforcement methods are introduced simply.
