As the market demand and technological progress, System chips are required to integrated more function blocks and more computing power, real-time and low power consumption requirements are more stringent too. The bus structure of SoC(System on Chip) architecture can't meet the system chip's requirement. As a newly developed architecture, NoC (Network on Chip) can fundamentally solve these issues.In this paper, firstly we present the background of the development of NoC architecture and the research status about NoC at home and abroad. Then elaborate several aspects about NoC researches, such as topology, routing technology and routing algorithm. And then the OPNET network simulation software is introduced, using this software to define functions of each NoC module and model the network characteristics of NoC. Finally, we simulate several different topologies. According to the simulation result, we hold the idea that the proposed improved Mesh topology is better than Mesh topology in respects of packet delay and power consumption.
