With the development of automatic, intelligent instrumentation and fieldbus technology, field devices's management and maintenance has become a major topic in the industrial control filed. To the beginning, based on analyzing asset management system of major vendors, two kinds of dev ice description technology and three kinds of fieldbus technology which are popular today are respectively analyzed. The principle of EDDL (Electronic Device Description Language) technology and internal working mechanism of EDD file interpreter are got a detailed analysis. Finally, according to the specific functional requirements of the device management, this thesis designed and built the asset management system based on EDDL technology.In the thesis, the main achievements are described as follows:1. We researched the relationship between the major elements and language specifications of EDDL, analyzed the composition and working principle of DDS(Device Description Service). Then we designed the method of parsing the EDD file program. Moreover, it successfully realized the integration of DDS and asset management system which achieves interoperability of intelligent instruments and provides a unified interface to observe parameters and functions of different devices.2. By the researching the current primary asset management systems and intelligent instrumentation, the needed functions of asset management system are analyzed. Then, according to functional requirements, we establishes the system designing principle, offers solutions to system based on COM technology andĀ·multi-module. Finally, we designed the network structure based on B/S model and system structure. During that process, the advantages of the COM technology are taken into full consideration, such as high efficiency, less investment, maintenance, low cost, reusability, and simple of software upgrades, just to name a few of them.3. The EDDL management module-the core module of asset management system is separated to several sub-module, undergone further design and exploitation, successfully worked out the functions of sub-modules. Also, different drivers were respectively designed to support HART, FF, Profibus fieldbus protocol and DCS system, thus making the asset management system support three kinds of fieldbus and DCS system. In this way, it provides convenience to both device manufacturers and users, which enable users to manage different field devices through the same system.
