The multi-CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) scanner is an important digital equipment and has been widely used in military, surveying, medical and other fields. The large-format flatbed color scanner in this research project is designed and developed to meet the need of large-format, high-precision and various-media. This scanner captures image data parallel through employing several same type of CCDs at a high speed, and then obtains the complete breadth of scanning image with high quality by stitching images.As signals in imaging, digitizing and transmitting process will be disturbed by various uncertain type of noises, image quality decreases. To eliminate the distortion caused by these noises, this paper presents the principle of multi-CCD large-format scanners and image processing methods. Firstly, it introduces the working principle of scanners, the technique of color separation, performance evaluation and the overall design of the multi-CCD scanner system; Secondly, it deals with the design and implementation of the scanning interface and image processing module; And then, through introducing the BMP and TIFF image formats and analyzing the system noises, it chiefly proposes and demonstrates several algorithms for image enhancement and correction; Finally, it summarizes ICC Profile and Color Management System which ensures the color consistency on different devices.
