Meteor burst communication (MBC) is a type of burst communication, which relies on the meteor ionization trails generated during the friction between meteors and the atmosphere to reflect radio-wave. It has some advantages, such as excellent security, robustness, less susceptibility to jamming and long-term transmission. As the channel of MBC can only exist for a short period of time but has to deal with burst communication demand, a proper baseband hardware platform with stable and reliable performance becomes crucially important as well as a suitable coding scheme with low computational complexity. This paper starts with the introduction of MBC and the analysis of the channel characteristics. Then the principle of baseband signal processing is presented. Based on those, the baseband hardware platform design is completed, which involves schematic design, printed circuit board design and debugging. Electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity are taken into account in the design process. The efficiency of the platform is demonstrated both in the laboratory and the field. Finally, Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code is closely studied through simulating and analyzing several classic algorithms. The simulation result shows that the code can improve the performance of bit error rate with low coding and decoding complexity.
