With the rapid development of market economy, the upgrading of network communication tools becomes more quickly. Most of people tend to use network to communicate. The traditional text input communication method in network has been gradually replaced by chating with audio and video. There are mainly two ways of chating:one is the specilised voice (video) chat rooms, it uses WEB mode, B/S structure; the other is similar to QQ or MSN, which is a kind of specilized more choice chating tool, it uses C/S structure. However, these chating tools can only run in the public Internet, for some companies, these tools affect the company's working efficiency. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a communication tool which can be used in the internal LAN of the company or the enterprise.Instant messenger system is just a kind of LAN application software support platform which is based on a variety of basic applications under this idea and context. This article mianly discusses how various function realized in instant messenger system. As for the audio captured function, it is realized by the built-in function function of windows; audio compression function is achieved by setting the buffer; the audio transmission function is achieved through the udp protocol; the video captured function is realized by the built-in video capture card; the video compression function is realized by H.263 standard; the video transmission function is achieved by udp protocol, text communication is realized by calling the socket communication.The system is aroused by the practical problems in real life; it not only has the significance of research, but also has good prospects to be used and development.
