With the development of the new service, the structure of transmission network has also been progressed. Optical fiber communication, as a kind of signal transmission way, its network organization has always been the electrical level. In order to adapt to the new business needs, optical communication develops from electrical layer to optical layer. Then comes OTN technology. How to supply the most economic business restore way to ensure business recovery under the unexpected circumstances has become the most important problem on OTN. Improve the network protection management mechanism has become the most important aspect for the protection of OTN.Telecommunications administration BBS (TMF) as a nonprofit organization, it's purpose is to provide advice and implementing scheme for telecommunication operation and management of worldwide.TMF has become a current industry of uniform standards. TMF MTNM can realize multi-vendor coexist network communication, it simplifies the end-to-end management. But it alos exists some shortages for OTN's protection management mechanism. One is due to the limitations of protect type definition, it cannot distinguish various types of protection groups conveniently; Second is that the definition of protection group of TMF is based on single ME(management element), so it cannot express ring network protection group and subnet protection groups.This paper expands the additionalinfo an IDL of protection group management based on TMF. The Extended interface can solve these two problems, ans give a better management for OTN's protection mechanism. On the other side, protection uninterrupted analysis plays an important part of the management mechanism. It directly affects the quality of the protection mechanism. The traditional protection uninterrupted analysis algorithm is based on the analysis of the factors of alarm, it has certain limitation. This paper improves the traditional uninterrupted analysis algorithm, its analusis now is based on uninterrupted alarms and uninterrupted reason. It can locatinon the interrupted positions more correctly for the uninterrupted maintenance. The final test results show that the system can locate the uninterrupted position correctly, and it can distinguish the various protection type of OTN, at the same time it can manage the ring network protection and subnetwork protection group more directly.
