In an information-based society, most data are important and often tagged with the attribute of confidentiality or indispensability. But in front of various natural or technical risks, data are also fragile and likely to be damaged or lost. So a data protection and disaster recovery system is very significant for data healthy.Traditional data disaster recovery systems, due to their high cost and deployment complexity, are not suitable for protecting data in such as daily office environment, excluding desktop users from their benefits. So, it's of great theoretical meaning and practical value to study Continuous Data Protection (CDP) technology, design a light-weight and cost-effective CDP system.The main contributions of this thesis are that:·a file-based platform-irrelevant CDP system architecture is designed and a prototype is implemented on Windows, based on the analysis of requirements for data disaster recovery.·backup data size are reduced by using the technology of lossless data compression and data de-duplication, which increases the file synchronization efficiency and decreases the storage space requirement.·transparent and continuous capture to file operation is implemented, and fast I/O channel of the file system filter driver is expanded, which decrease the performance impact on the host.·a data transportation protocol is given, by which data may be reliably transmitted through WAN and file operation order may be strictly conserved.·an operation-restore algorithm is designed, which ensures the file operation replay and data consistence.·an operation-return algorithm and a recovery-point display algorithm are implemented, by which the recovery directory tree may be constructed dynamically and file may be recovered independently.This thesis also gives some thorough testing about the functional and performance characteristics of CDP system. The results are encourage and demonstrates that CPD system enjoys lower demand for storage space, smaller performance impact on host, and a minute-level Recovery Point Objective (RPO). So it's concluded that the CDP system may accelerate the population of data disaster recovery system, and may be widely used for data protection of desktop user, relieving them from data loss caused by human mistakes, virus attacking and software errors.
