With the computer technology and computer communications technology, the Internet gradually penetrates into people's lives. Internet has become part of people's lives and has been affecting people profoundly on many aspects such as their life styles, relationships, work patterns and thinking methods, etc. A virtual community, which is organized in the way of human society but does not really exist as a physical entity, is being formed by Internet. It is also known as "network society",The online group system, an online application system dividing people into different kinds of groups, reflects the characteristics of "network society". Users can create and manage a group freely. They can also invite other people to join the group. The members of a group are able to upload data or share the group resources. The group system has a flexible user management mechanism to enable a conversation among a target group of people. The main work includes: analysis of the characteristics and the development of the group system, principles and features of Struts2 Hibernate technique and JQuery framework technique, collection of various needs towards the system , and a total design of the system according to different demands which divides it into six core modules—the login module, the user module, base module, topic modules, resource modules and management module .Next, based on the MVC design pattern, the whole system is developed in a three-tier architecture of presentation layer, control layer and model layer. Finally, according to product planning, three solutions in practical applications are described. And the system is tested. The trial running and test result reveals that the design of the system meets the demanded goals.
