Zigbee is an emerging short-rang wireless network technology with low cost, small size and low power consumption. With the rapid development of semiconductor technology, micro-system technology, communication technology, Zigbee has been paid great concern and attention in the areas of automatic control, computer and wireless communication.Today, with the social economic development and rising living standards of China, consumers has higher requirement on fresh, quality and safety of vegetable and fruit products. They require an cold-chain environmental monitoring system during transporting, which is still under developing now. In such cases, the cold-chain monitoring system during transporting was designed by combination of sensor technology and wireless communication technology based on Zigbee. This paper is made up of the following parts:(1)The area of Zigbee technolgy and its system applications have been reviewed. On this basis, the sensors applied in the cold-chain monitoring system is selected.(2)The modules of sink node and collecting envorinment information for temperature and humidity, ethylene were designed and implemented. The wireless sensor network which based on Zigbee is built for monitoring the environment to the cab of cold-chain vhicle.(3)The software on vehicle server was developed by C# language, which realized collecting and monitoring the environment in the cab of cold-chain vehicle.(4)The experiment of Packet Right Receive is made by combining the characteristics of fruit and vegetable in real environment during transporting, and the communication quality of the module collecting envorinment information of temperature and humidity, ethylene is analyzed under different position and temperature.The results show the system is low cost and high reliablility, which can be easily applied to cold-chain environmental information collection and monitoring during the transporting. The prototype achieves the expected goals.
