Binding Machine is a type of special mechanical equipment designed for bundled packaging of industrial steel bar. Due to the harsh industrial environment, over-many actions of bundling operations for Binding Machine as well as high requirements of stability of control systems in terms of their automated production, the design of control systems for Binding Machine plays an especially important role in the process. The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a new type of industrial control device suitable for the design of Binding Machine control systems, which is specifically designed to adapt to the new industrial environment with high reliability, versatility, simple operation, small size, long life.Two KNSB series bar binding machines produced by Swedish SUND/BIRSTA are equipped for its line of bundled packaging links by a certain steel company in order to achieve rapid bundled package deal and meet the rapid changes in market demand for bars. Based on these conditions, this paper focuses on investigating the design of Binding Machine PLC based control systems and conducting on-site commissioning in terms of an analysis of the basic structure and working principle of bar binding machines and the actual situation of steel production line site as well as technological requirements. Control system design includes electrical control system design and PLC control system design. Electrical control system design can be devided into three parts. Firstly, the needs analysis of binding machine system is completed. Then the overall system design and modular design are performed respectively and finally for each module the design of the electrical schematic diagram and part of technological flow chart would be carried out. PLC control system involves the selection of hardware modules and programming of software. After completion of the system design, the whole system is debugged. In the first place,simulation software debugging is conducted, then comes with PLC debugging by simulating field condition. In the last place, on-line debugging of the whole binding machine system can be performed.After debugging,put the machine into trial running for testing.The control system is running well during testing, there is no failure of bundling, and scattered bundles after lifting test by cranes do not appear. The result of system design meets requirements for industial control.
