The Problems In The University Library Cataloging Work And The Countermeasures

University Library is the service institution for higher education teaching and scientific research. The development of higher education put forward higher requirements for the library. The cataloging work of documents is the center in library work.With the digitization of bibliographies and rapid development of computer network technology, common learning, building and sharing of the information resources becomes the aim for the library development, union catalog realization is the important link of the library automation development. The cataloging work is the premise and foundation of the information resource sharing. This requests us to proceed the study of the document cataloging, to discover the problems which exist in the catalog work basing on the theories and practices and propose suggestions and countermeasures to solve them, and to improve the quality of the cataloging and promote the cataloging work's standardization so that it lays the foundation for the resource sharing.First of all, from the university library cataloging the contents, methods and trends, the thesis makes an analysis on the status and development of the university library cataloging, discusses the changes from the traditional manual cataloging to the modern computer cataloging, introduces the cataloging workflow, working methods in university library, cataloging socialization, and catalog trends on the network information resource, and analyse the copying catalogue of university library as a main mode of computerized cataloging. By analyzing the current situation, it points out the existence of a number of specific issues in the practice of cataloging work. It gives an analysis, ranging from sampling, checking repreat, cataloging workflow, copying data, original cataloging, documentation processing and other areas which are prone to disagreement or error, and then puts forward author's views. At last from the cataloging standardizations, cataloging source data quality, cataloging rules, cataloging outsourcing impact, database rebuilding, university consolidation, software systems, and the quality of the cataloging personnel, it analyzes the reasons of the problems, and proposes a number of options speeding up the unification and standardization process of documents cataloging, doing the revision work well, strengthening the collection database maintenance, establishing information feedback system of cataloging quality and improving the overall quality of cataloging staff.
