Research On Social Cataloging Website And The Impact On Library

In the current era, known as the era of Web 2.0, SNS (Social Network Sites) is booming. Gradually, SNS has penetrated to various fields as the main trend of the Internet. In the area of cataloging, there is a new way called "Social Cataloging", which allows the users to participate in the construction of catalog. The "Social Cataloging" which is a new way of information organization in the Web2.0 environment has more flexibility and the effect of gathering the mass wisdom, comparing with the traditional cataloging ways. It provides some new ideas for the cataloging mode of the library. The traditional catalogers are lack in the platform on which they can communicate with users directly. The popularization and more matured implementation of the "Social Cataloging" will lighten the burden on the professional catalogers, and have great importance to dig deep into the information of cataloging. It also could present more abundant catalog data information to the users, and improve the efficiency and accuracy of users'Information Search. This paper revealed the core function, key technology and the services provided for library of the typical Social Cataloging website-LibraryThing, and analyzed and summarized its advantages and limitations through a deep analysis and study, putting forward the suggestion about using the technology and the idea of social cataloging website in libraries. At last, based on the theoretical discussion and the research on technology, this paper built a social library information service platform based on Web 2.0.The whole paper is organized as follows:Chapter one states the background, significance of the research, the research situation of social cataloging, the structure of the paper and the key to the study.Chapter two focuses on the catalog theory, SNS, the rise of the social cataloging website and the main Web2.0 technologies which are used in it, providing the theoretical and technical foundation for the further research.Chapter three makes a close study of the core function,key technology, the services and the latest development of the a social cataloging website-LibraryThing. It also analyses and summarizes its advantages and limitations.Chapter four points out that the development of social network causes the change of the information environment which the library is in. And it puts forward the suggestion about using the technology and the idea of social cataloging website in libraries, and then prospects the developing trend of future libraries.Based on the research on theory and technology, Chapter five builds a social library information service platform based on Web 2.0.The last chapter gives a summarization of the paper, pointing out the shortcomings of the study and the direction of future research.
