Pop Art is an crucial school in the Western history of modern art from 1950 s to 1960 s.As U.S.A became the Super Power and the leader of the Western Camp after the World War Ⅱ,New York Had in place of Paris became the Center of Modern Art. It provide an excellent prerequisites for Pop Art to show the American cultural values of pop art in the post-war.Overall,American Pop Art can divides into three themes:commercial consumption,Portraits of Celebrities,Society and Politics. This paper focused on the social and political themes in the 1960’s.So I will research the works of American Tragedies and Race Riots by Andy Warhol in the early 1960 s,and The images of President Kennedy in the works by James Rosenquist and Robert Rauschenberg;And analyze the description and attitude about the war in Other Pop Artist’s Works in the middle and late 1960 s.Therefore I will explore the significance and influence of the social and political themes in Pop Art.
