Major Choice is becoming an urgent problem for Chinese high school students. Therefore, how to help them choose a suitable major is important for both their career development in the future and the construction in career education field. The social and cultural elements are uncontrollable for career educators, so it will be more effective and well directed for career educators to make predictions for students by analyzing from psychological perspective the personal elements like personality and career interests. Based on the SCCT, this thesis explores the relationships between personality, career interests, career confidence and major intentions of high school students. Then it analyzes the results of predicting major intentions of high school students with their different personalities, career interests, genders and career confidence.This research uses questionnaires of different types, including CPAI-A〠RIASEC-interestã€RIASEC-efficacy, with a total of 781 high school students in their second year. The questionnaires covered questions on personality, career interests, career confidence and major intentions and used MANOVA to analyze the differences in personality, career interests and career confidence according to their different genders, areas and major intentions. Discriminant analyses is used to analyze the results of predicting their major intentions by their personalities, career interests and career confidence.The results show that 1, students of different sex and major intentions in different areas show significant differences in the scores marked in personality, career interests and career confidence;2. Personality, career interests and career confidence play active roles in predicting students’major intentions; 3. Personality, career interest and career confidence functions differently for students of different genders in different areas.It can be concluded as follows. Firstly, personality, career interest and career confidence can be used as prediction indexes and career educators can help students choose their most suitable career by analyzing their personalities, career interests and career confidence. Secondly, elements like gender and areas with different population should be taken into consideration when educators try to help students choose majors by analyzing their personalities, career interests and career confidence. |
