Task-based approach emphasizes "learning by doing", and it is widely applied in international Chinese language education by many experts and scholars because of its authentic, practical, communicative and interesting features. Within this framework, the objective of this paper is to explore the effectiveness of the application of task-based approach into the short-term primary oral Chinese teaching. An experimental program has been carried out, where American students of Chu Xiong Normal University are taught oral Chinese by using Speed-up Chinese Ⅱ based on theories of task-based approach. The teaching characteristics of short-term course are also considered.This article is divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction to immediate primary oral Chinese teaching of task-based approach, an experimental program has been carried out, where American students of Chu Xiong Normal University as the research object, presents the significance of the selected topic,the present situation of literature research and the main research methods.The first chapter through the basic characteristic of American short-term course teaching, teaching objects, teaching materials and the advantage of the task-based teaching model, has carried on the feasibility analysis, Ellis Task Mode is adopted as a guide for the task, taking the teaching characteristics of short-term course, American students’individual characters and textbooks into consideration. And the short term the task-based classroom of primary oral Chinese teaching goal and the teaching principle has carried on the comprehensive summary, in order to guide the teaching implementation process.In the second chapter, in the form of a questionnaire survey has chosen Speed-up Chinese Ⅱ, American students are most interested in the six categories of topics, namely:asking for directions and travel, greeting and introduction, diet, transportation, shopping, interest and hobbies, to make a task of teaching design, and according to the difficulty of the task to develop the teaching. Through interview, questionnaire survey, testing, and evaluation of teachers on students’ in-class tasks, obtained the good teaching effect, also reflects on the teaching of the deficiencies, and related suggestions are put forward.The fourth part is epilogue, through teaching practice, proves that task-based approach is applied to short-term primary oral Chinese is feasibility, rationality and effectiveness, and points out the deficiencies and the innovations of this article.The short-term oral Chinese teaching and task-based approach, is applied to the teaching practice, hope to be able to improve the enthusiasm of students learning Chinese, strengthen students’ self-confidence to learn Chinese, more important is to improve the students’ communicative competence, also hope that this study can offer certain enlightenment for short-term oral Chinese classroom.
