The word “haishi” with the meaning of “xuanze” is highly frequency used in the mordern Chinese. It is the clue of thesis, and the three patterns related to the word “haishi” with the meaning of “xuanze” is the object of study. Under the guidance of structural linguistics, cognitive linguistics and grammaticalization, combined with statistical analysis of a large number of facts and language corpus, with the methods of a description and explanation and the form and meaning, we try to explore the three patterns related to the word “haishi” with the meaning of “xuanze”.The paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is an introduction section.This part introduces the object of study, the research meaning of this paper and the current status, explain the related thoery, methods and the source of the linguistic data, etc.Chapter two discusses the “shi X haishi Y” pattern from the syntactic, semantic and pragmatics. Firstly, we describe the constitution of the pattern, and we find that the pattern often co-occurrence with negative speculative cognitive behavior verb. The “shi X haishi Y” pattern can be used in selecting complex sentence, also can be used in joint phrase. Secondly, we analyze the semantic features of the“shi X haishi Y” pattern and the conjunction “haishi”, also the relation between select items X and Y. In addition, we explain the order of the select items X and Y and the pattern’s pragmatic function.Chapter three discusses the “wulun/buguan/bulun(shi) X haishi Y” pattern. We describe its type, composition and sequence. From the semantics, the “wulun/buguan/bulun(shi) X haishi Y” pattern has the meaning of logical sense and judgement sense. In addition, condition A & condition B is exemplified. From the pragmatic, condition A & condition B is restricted.Chapter four discusses the “haishi X de hao” pattern. We describe the constitution of the pattern. Then from the the semantics, the “haishi X de hao” pattern is subjectivive and interactive subjectivive. Also it has the difference of occurred and unoccurred. At the end, we decribe the rule of the pattern’s distribution. It’s proved that “haishi” emphasize which is close to “haishi”.Chapter five mainly discusses the word “haishi” with the meaning of “xuanze” from the perspective of synchronic and diachronic. The “haishi” in the pattern “shi X haishi Y”, “wulun/buguan/bulun(shi) X haishi Y” and “haishi X de hao” all have the meanning of “xuanze”. But they still have some difference. Finally analyze the evolution path of “haishi” from diachronic perspective.
