The marked selective compound sentence "shi p,haishi q" in Chinese news headlines has the characteristics of both selective compound sentences and news headlines.Compared with the usage in the main text,this sentence pattern shows a series of changes in terms of language form,semantics,and pragmatics,so it has unique useful values.Based on the theory of "Small Triangle",through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods,this thesis explores the particularity of "shi p,haishi q" in news headlines combined with previous studies and a large number of language facts.This thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the basic information of the thesis’s research significance,research objects,research foundation,research methods and corpus sources.The second chapter is the research on language form.Firstly,the usage of the sentence pattern "shi p,haishi q" in news headlines in the past ten years and its distribution in various news are counted.Then we sort out the related sentence patterns formed by marking default,replacement or clause expansion,and analyze the proportion of related sentence patterns and the composition characteristics of "p" and "q".At the same time,differences in sentence lengths of "p" and "q" between the main text and the title are compared.Finally,the use environment of "shi p,haishi q" as a component of compound sentences is discussed.The third chapter is the study of semantics.This part makes a qualitative and quantitative re-observation of the semantic relationship of "shi p,haishi q" in the title according to the standards of antonymous,homologous,synonymous,and irrelevant,and compares it with the semantic proportion of each category in the text.Combining previous studies,these four types of semantic relations are classified into regular semantic relations and special semantic relations.The characteristics and differences of semantic relations between different categories are analyzed based on the "Subjective Viewpoint" theory.The fourth chapter is the study of pragmatics.Through the data analysis of WeChat hot news headlines,it is found that in this environment the sentence pattern "shi p,haishi q"is more commonly used.Through further exploration of the reasons,it can be found that this sentence pattern can satisfy people’s desire for knowledge,seeking differences,crowd psychology,and meet the requirements for concise title.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the characteristics of the language form,semantics and pragmatics of the marked selective compound sentence"shi p,haishi q" in the news headline.
