There are multitudinous nationalities living in Yunnan Province, in the terms ofreligion, Buddhism has its own unique and indispensable status in the course of itshistorical development and spread. Tibetan Buddhism, Chinese Buddhism andTheravada’s Sthavira Buddhism, three religious sects, are prevailing incisively andvividly in Yunnan Province, which integrate the primitive religious beliefs to form thecurrent spectacle of religious diversity. What is important, Buddhists account for thevast majority of proportion. However, Chinese Buddhists mainly live in Hani and YiAutonomous Prefecture of Honghe, whose state government locates in Mengzi andmultitudinous Buddhists living in wide range, which is endowed with the typicalsignificance of research about Buddhism belief. This thesis attempts to do a researchabout Buddhism in Mengzi County based on religious perspective by applying themethods of Religious Sociology and Religious Anthropology. Basically, this thesistends to start from the research of present situation of seven local temples to discussthe dissemination of development on Buddhism in Mengzi from a macroscopicalangle. Analyzing the faith situation of monks and lay people who are the importantmembers in Buddhism, during which demonstrates the reason of believing inBuddhism, their daily performance, how they cultivate themselves according toBuddhism doctrines, as well as the awareness of Buddhism. Meanwhile, this thesistends to discuss the influences and affects it posts on the local economy, culture,morality and the common people, so as to present the relationship between thegovernment and Buddhism. Ultimately, this thesis will unfold the real situation ofBuddhist belief in Mengzi County through a detailed study across this thesis.
